Origins
Latino Civic Alliance promotes civic participation in the State of Washington. The organization was formed in 2004 and was originally known as "The Washington State Hispanic Legislative Day Committee". The organization held their first "Latino Legislative Day" in early 2005.

In 2007 the board of directors voted to  change the name to "The Washington State Hispanic/Latino Legislative Organization". Later the Board of Directors voted to change the name to the "Latino Civic Alliance" (LCA), to more accurately reflect the efforts to get the Latino community civically engaged and to provide civic education.

Members
Our organization is made up of people who volunteer their time and effort to make a difference in the Latino/Hispanic community by working towards the common goal of "Empowering Our Community - Fortaleciendo Nuestra Comunidad".

The diverse backgrounds of our members is what makes this organization unique. People with different backgrounds and different experiences bring fresh ideas and different perspectives, which helps the organization keep up with an ever-changing society. The Latino Civic Alliance includes leaders, advocates, and community based organizations from all over the state of Washington.

What We Do
We meet with State Senators, Legislators as well as the Governor of Washington State to promote an increased awareness of the issues that affect the Latino/Hispanic community. We also provide educational forums for community members to learn more about how local government works and what their civil rights are.

The Latino Civic Alliance also works to increase awareness in different communities around the state by putting on fundraisers, having informational booths during community events, and by attending community based organizational meetings.

The networking and hard work leads up to our main event which is the "Latino/Hispanic Legislative Day". This event is promoted as a day for people to come to the state capital to discuss and learn about the issues affecting Latinos in the State of Washington and for the Latino Community to come and meet with their representatives and visit their state capitol.

It is an opportunity to demystify the government access to the Latino Community, and to promote the idea that the government is for the people and by the people. All Washingtonians should feel that they can discuss the issues that affect them in their daily lives with those that are so duly elected to represent their interests either in local, county, state or a national political arena.
