Job Summary
The culturally Relevant Program Facilitator is responsible for delivering inclusive, community-focused education and workforce training to program participants. In this role, you will use your bilingual Spanish/English skills to teach and support English Language Learners (ELL) and help them develop essential job skills. You will facilitate workshops, provide one-on-one coaching in soft skills and career readiness, assist participants with apprenticeship and job applications, and lead a fentanyl awareness educational program. This position plays a key role in advancing workforce development initiatives and empowering participants through culturally responsive teaching and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Workshops & ELL Instruction: Plan and lead engaging, culturally relevant workshops and classes for program participants, including teaching sessions for English Language Learners (ELL) to improve their English proficiency and communication skills.
- Individual Coaching & Soft Skills Training: Meet with participants one-on-one or in small groups to provide essential skills training and soft skills development. This includes coaching in resume building, job application techniques, workplace communication, and conducting mock interviews to prepare participants for real-world job interviews.
- Pre-Apprenticeship/Internship Application Support: Assist participants in researching and applying for pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and internship opportunities. Guide individuals through application requirements, help them complete forms, prepare supporting documents, and track application deadlines to increase their chances of success.
- Workforce Development Program Support: Contribute to broader workforce development initiatives and program goals. Collaborate with team members to develop and refine program curriculum, organize career-readiness events (such as job fairs or employer info sessions), and support participant recruitment and retention efforts.
- Fentanyl Education Program Leadership: Lead a fentanyl awareness educational program as part of our community health outreach. Develop or utilize existing curriculum to educate participants about the dangers of fentanyl and other opioids, deliver informative workshops on prevention and safety, and coordinate with health professionals or partners as needed to provide up-to-date information and resources.
- Participant Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and outcomes. Prepare reports on workshop participation, skill improvements, and placement results as required, ensuring data is kept confidential. Use this information to help evaluate program effectiveness and inform improvements.
- Community and Cultural Liaison: Serve as a culturally responsive liaison for Spanish-speaking participants and their families. Build trust within the community by respecting cultural nuances, providing translations or language support when necessary, and connecting participants to relevant community resources (such as FAFSA/WASFA guidance, if applicable, or other social services).
- Other Duties: Work collaboratively with program staff and perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the success of program participants and initiatives. This may include attending team meetings, participating in staff training, and contributing ideas to enhance program delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual Fluency: Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken) is required. Ability to communicate effectively in both languages in educational and professional settings.
- Education & Training Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, or a related field—or equivalent work experience in teaching, training, or workforce development.
- Teaching/Facilitation Skills: 2+ years of experience facilitating workshops, teaching classes, or leading group training sessions. Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) or multilingual populations is highly valued.
- Career Development Knowledge: Experience or strong knowledge in career readiness training, including resume writing, job search strategies, and interview coaching. Comfortable conducting mock interviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Workforce/Program Experience: Demonstrated experience in workforce development programs, education, youth programs, or community outreach. Understanding of apprenticeship and internship pathways or willingness to quickly learn the basics of these programs.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to engage and motivate participants and communicate clearly with individuals from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Capable of managing multiple responsibilities – from planning lessons and workshops to meeting individually with participants – while maintaining attention to detail in documentation and scheduling
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) for creating training materials, resumes, and tracking participant data. Ability to effectively use email, video conferencing, and other communication tools to connect with participants and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- FAFSA/WASFA Knowledge: Familiarity with FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) processes is a plus. Ability to guide students or participants on basic financial aid questions or refer them to appropriate resources is beneficial. (Preferred but not required.)
- ESL/ELL Certification: TESOL/TEFL certification or an ESL endorsement is advantageous, as it demonstrates specialized training in teaching English to non-native speakers.
- Workforce Development Experience: Previous experience working with pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship programs or with organizations focused on job placement and vocational training, is desirable. Understanding of labor market trends and local workforce resources is a plus.
- Community Health/Education Experience: Experience developing or facilitating public health education programs (for example, drug prevention, health workshops, or safety trainings) is beneficial, especially for leading the fentanyl educational program.
- Cultural Competency: Lived experience or extensive experience working within Latinx/Hispanic communities or other diverse communities. This includes understanding cultural values, barriers, and strengths of the community, which can enhance program relevance and effectiveness.
