March 17th, from 12:30pm - 3:00pm.
We offered an exciting virtual program this year. Below you will find a preview of our workshops this year.
Our Latinx/Hispanic communities often neglect or don’t understand the importance in mental health and mental illness. Our loved ones may stigmatize topics of mental health which can cause us to suffer those battles in silence, or perhaps there are systemic barriers keeping us from getting the help we need. In this workshop we will discuss the ways in which to break down the stigma, advocate for mental health services, and provide resources. We can’t serve for others if we’re not fully providing for ourselves.
How does anti-Blackness in our Latinx/Hispanic communities present itself? In this workshop we will discuss the ways in which anti-Blackness has rooted itself within our cultural norms whether it be through colorism or outright rhetoric and beliefs. We will dissect the ways in which our systems have justified anti-Blackness and ways that we can begin redressing the wrongs in our communities.
A one fits all approach to higher education is not the only option. In this workshop we will discuss college, alternatives to college, and how to pay for it all. Take on College, a non-profits that helps make higher education accessible to all students will be presenting on their program helping students with college application essays, scholarships, and many other services for free. We will provide other options to create a future that’s right for you.
Environmental impacts are affecting our Latinx/Hispanic communities at higher rates each day. With the global pandemic, our communities are being hospitalized at the highest rate with 18.2% of the U.S. COVID-19 deaths being among Latinos, and only 3.5% of Latinos have received the COVID vaccine so far. Our communities are risking their lives at the forefront of essential work through pandemics and rigorous climates. In this workshop we will discuss the impacts of climate change, accessibility to healthcare, and the initiatives we want to pass for COVID relief, climate justice, and the preventable insurance for future catastrophes.
